Not all Premixed Grouts are Equal
There are four basic types of grout in the market – Cement Grout (sanded or unsanded); Advanced Performance Grout; Epoxy Grout and Premixed Grout (or single-component). With different installation requirements on the jobsite, it is important to understand, which grout suits the project best in order to prevent later failures. The following gives an overview of Premixed Grouts and their specific benefits for tile installations.
Premixed Grout is designed to meet the needs of contractors and installers as it requires no slaking or mixing, once done, it can be resealed and used for touch-ups or future jobs.
There is a common misconception that Premixed Grouts don’t have high performing qualities but they provide a number of benefits for tile-flooring projects including stain, mildew and mold resistance, high durability and a broad color selection. All premixed grouts are either polymer resin-based or urethane-based. Most premixed grouts are efflorescence free. They can be used in many applications and are especially suitable when color consistency is essential. Best for countertops, backsplashes or walls and floors in kitchens and bathrooms.
There is a number of different Premixed Grouts in the market, all with different benefits for specific tile projects. Some higher performing premixed grouts are formulated to withstand exterior or commercial environments or submerged applications.
The following shows the variations of premixed grouts in more detail. For more information read the product label and application instructions before using them to ensure the suitability for your project.
